Pattachitra Paintings Odisha

Pattachitra is one of the oldest and most popular styles of painting in Odisha and West Bengal. Going by a popular belief, Pattachitra artform originated as early as the 12th century.

The name Pattachitra has evolved from the Sanskrit word ‘patta’, meaning cloth, and ‘chitra’, meaning picture. Thus, Pattachitra is a painting done on canvas. The Paintings have rich colorful application and creative motifs and designs. The artform is known for its intricate details, mythological narratives and the folktales inscribed in it and thus is very popular with connoisseurs.
